Diamonds In the Shadow response. 11-11-09 answer of the two questions assigned.

The turning point for Alake was when she talked to Victor when he was at the Finche's house and Mopsy was about to open the two plastic containers to get the diamonds. She was covering for Mopsy because the diamonds was not in the two containers. She took Victor to another place and stalled and when she got the chance she pulled him into the freezing cold water with her and killed him so he wouldn't put harm to Mopsy, Jared, or Mattu. Because, after Alake took him to the water Jared and Mattu showed up in Daniel's car to save Mopsy and Alake. I think that was the turning point for Alake because through the whole book she never talked to nobody never and then she started talking to Victor at the Finche's house after she saw that there was no diamonds in the containers. But, the book said she could only talk to the evil so she probably won't talk again like she talked to Victor.
The character that i think changed the most was Alake. At the beginning of the story Alake was quite, never talked, never communicated in anyway, and never payed attention to anybody or what they had to say. In the middle of the book Alake started to get a little better at that stuff and stopped ignoring people when they talked to her and she started admiring herself in the mirror after Mopsy gave her a hair cut and made her look clean by putting a red dress on her and painting her nails red. Towards the end of the book Alake watched Mopsy type on a computer an email and then tryed it. It wasn't really readable but after Alake tryed it again and spaced the words out she wrote it perfect in the email and it said I LOVE JOPSY! But, it was suppose to say Mopsy. After that Tay brought Alake over a puppy because of what she achieved by typing the email to her. She started to love the puppy very much and she played with it. At the end of the book Alake spoke again finally for the first time in America. She spoke to Victor though and the book said she could only speak to evil but she wanted to speak to the nice people but she just couldn't. So, she probably will never speak again. Then at the very end of the book she risked her life for her friends and pulled Victor into freezing cold water with her so he wouldn't hurt or harm Mopsy in anyway. This is why i think Alake was the one who changed the most from beginning to the end of the novel.

  1. You gave good answers and supported them well. However, most thought the turning point for Alake was the hair cut or the puppy, which you talked about in the second response.

I always enjoy reading what you write.
